I’ve never been one to do lots of exercise. When I was a kid I played a lot of sport and was very lean, tall and thin, but as soon as I went through puberty the curves started to appear. Since then I’ve been what I’d politely cause a “lazy arse” doing very little exercise and generally not moving much on a daily basis. I knew this would have to change after my WLS but up until the last month I really hadn’t done much as the weight was falling off on it’s own.
Now I’m 6 months out the weight loss has really slowed down. This month so far I’ve only lost 3lbs, and in my eyes it’s not good enough. I want more. I still have 30+ to lose, and at 3lbs a month I won’t reach my goal weight within the first year.
I have been doing the 30 Day Shred DVD, but not every day as my muscles began to ache, then christmas happened, then a whole load of other excuses. I got back into it this week, and have exercised the last 4 days, but still don’t feel like I’m doing enough. If I want to lose more and tone up then I need to put more hours in, changing my food is only half of the solution.
So I decided to take a look at Jillian Michaels latest offering, Body Revolution.
It’s a 90 day programme designed to help you lose weight, tone up and get fitter, and it doesn’t look easy.
The progam comes with a one week quick start diet plan, then a more long term meal plan to follow. It’s mostly lean organic meats, organic vegetables and nuts. Theres no fruit, no caffeine, no white carbs, no alcohol, no treats of any kind really. Oh, and theres also 2 workouts a day, yep, 2.
There is a toning 30 minute workout to do every morning and a cardio 30 minute workout to do every afternoon. The workouts change every few weeks to provide variety and help work your muscles harder.
I can’t officially start the workout until Friday ( my new food comes, I’m settled in my temp home and have free time ) but today I thought I would try the cardio workout to see how hard the 90 days is going to be.
I watched the video through before attempting it and was terrified as I saw Jillian bounce jump lunge and squat at a high pace and intensity, but once I was doing the workout with her I found myself enjoying the ache of my muscles and the feeling of satisfaction as I completed each set of reps.
The workout was hard, very hard. I was out of breath, my arms hurt, I was red in the face and had sweat dripping off every part of my body, yet I felt fabulous. I even made it through the entire thing, without stopping once for a mini rest.
The feeling of accomplishment you get from completing something you didn’t think you could do is amazing!!!
6 months ago I couldn’t even manage more than 10 minutes of very light jogging on a treadmill and now I’m pounding through tough workouts and actually enjoying it.
I can’t wait to see where I will be in another 6 months.
